Chennai Express began its overseas box office run on a good note as the film did
great business in popular global circuits.
Being a Shah Rukh Khan film, whose fans
cover a larger part of both hemispheres,
the film received a brilliant response on
its Thursday previews.
In Australia, the film earned Australian $
38,315 and in New Zealand the film
made NZ$ 8,058 which is magnanimous
given only selected Bollywood films fare
so well at their box office!
In U.K, the film has set new record,
which is another SRK stronghold region.
The film on its preview day earned £
142,220 which beats the opening day
records of his previous Karan Johar's My
Name Is Khan and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Aamir Khan starrer 3 Idiots and
Salman Khan starrer Ek Tha Tiger in the
circuit.
As per early estimates, this Rohit Shetty
directorial made a business of over 3 crores in U.A.E.
However, the data from the crucial
circuit U.S.A is still being compiled but
going by the collections in other
important circuits, trade expectations
are immensely high!

BOX OFFICE: Paid Previews Of ‘Chennai Express’ House-Full!
This year's most awaited film, 'Chennai Express', directed by Rohit
Shetty and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, is finally
released today. As expected, the box office anticipation is extremely
high.
Produced by Shah Rukh Khan's banner
Red Chillies Productions, 'Chennai
Express' is probably one of the biggest
Bollywood releases this year.
Expectations are already sky- high, with
the film grabbing eyeballs everywhere. Add to that is the festive season, and it
sure looks like the 'Chennai Express'
team has a true-blue winner on their
hands.
We spoke to a few top officials at multiplexes and single screen theatres,
to get a sense of what they predict will
be the opening for the film:
As Cinemax Deputy GM-Corporate Communications and Public Relations Mr.
Girish Wankhede says, "The buzz for
'Chennai Express' is awesome. For today,
all the paid previews are going housefull, while tomorrow also there
is heavy bookings. There is also block bulk
bookings for the weekend, so we predict
for the first two days the occupancy will
be a full 100%. Saturday and Sunday also
looks promising, with the occupancy will
be not less than 90%."
"I won't comment on which film's record
would be broken but I can confidently
say that Chennai Express is going to
create many records for sure, starting
with Paid Previews."
Elaborating on the reason for the
inclusion of paid previews, he said: "We
are glad to screen 10-12 shows on
Thursday itself for two reasons. First and
foremost the buzz is very high and it
makes sense to capitalize on that. Secondly, there is no other
blockbuster in the running that can't be moved. From Friday onwards
there would be an
average of 20 shows at all our major
properties."
A spokesperson of a leading single
screen theatre in Bangalore, Rex
Theatres, agreed with Mr. Wankhede by
saying that buzz is extremely positive.
"Since the film is a festive release, and
add to that it is a big budget Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, buzz is tremendous.
Advance booking trends have been very
encouraging, as the preview shows this
evening are almost sold out. Tomorrow
being a holiday for Eid, we expect
nothing less than an average 90-95% occupancy."

'Chennai Express' expected to taste success at box-office
A super-duper hit from superstar Shahrukh Khan is long overdue, says
the industry. Though his magnetic personality pulls in fans for each
of his films, they were not enough to make his last few films
blockbusters. Now trade pundits are hoping that Chennai Express would
taste box-office success and boost King Khan's fluctuating fortunes.
Shahrukh has pulled out all stops to make this one a hit - from
onground promotions across states, special appearances on the small
screen, having the film's music played in restrooms of multiplexes and
releasing it on an occasion as holy as Eid on Friday - King Khan has
steered Chennai Express around all the right quarters.
In the recent past, the 47-year-old has showcased a variety in his
roles - if he played a fictional version of himself in Billu Barber,
he portrayed Rizwan Khan, a character suffering from Asperger syndrome
in My Name Is Khan with vengeance. His Ra.One, one of the most
expensive movies made in the country, gave SRK a superhero avatar,
while Don 2: The Chase Continues brought him back as the villain, and
Jab Tak Hai Jaan gave a window to his most-loved romantic streak.
My Name Is Khan fared better internationally. SRK himself admitted he
could have done better with Ra.One. And the fizz for Jab Tak Hai Jaan
died soon after it was released.
Such lulls are not new in the Bollywood badshah's over two-decade-old
career. Remember how post-Main Hoon Na, his films Swades, Veer-Zaara
and Paheli won critical acclaim, but failed to elicit an overwhelming
response at the box office?
Then 2006 release Don punched out the bad phase with its tremendous
business, followed by two more blockbusters -Om Shanti Om and Chak De!
India in the following year.
Now people are hoping for a winner in the Rohit Shetty directorial
Chennai Express, which sees SRK romancing his Om Shanti Om co-star
Deepika Padukone.
More so, since it is only Farhan Akhtar- starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
which has been holding the fort at the cash registers since four weeks
now. Smaller films have come and gone, but the demand for Bhaag Milkha
Bhaag, a biopic on ace athlete Milkha Singh, has been pacing ahead,
crossing the Rs. 100 crore mark on Bollywood's racing track.
Chennai Express, with its huge marketing campaigns and tie-ups, heavy
duty promotions, eclectic catchy music, as well as a grand release of
over 3,500 screens in the country and 700 screens abroad, is expected
to outshine Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. It is also being dubbed in nine
languages - English, French, Spanish, Arabic, German, Hebrew, Dutch,
Turkish and Malay.
" Chennai Express is a commercial entertainer and has an obvious and
enormous demand overseas with Deepika Padukone's and Shahrukh Khan's
fan base," says Amrita Pandey, executive director, International
Distribution Studios, Disney UTV.
Nine months after failing to impress his fans with his true-romantic
avatar in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, SRK has taken the commercial action-comedy
genre route, which is usually the trademark of his arch rival Salman
Khan.
"Chennai Express is a comedy film with a love story, but it's
definitely not like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
It's a family entertainer. There's a little action too," SRK stated
recently.
Will Chennai Express chug away to success with all its steam?

Will Chennai Express Repeat JTHJ Magic At Mysore Box Office?
Traditionally, Karnataka has been a
good market for other language movies.
Especially, Bollywood movies enjoy a
wonderful fan following in the state. It
may be because of the cosmopolitan
atmosphere. The A-list stars' films have often done stunning collections here.
In the recent years, many Hindi films
made good business in Karnataka. Jab
Tak Hain Jaan, Ek Tha Tiger, etc., are the
few films, which earned record-
breaking collections in this part of the
world. Now, yet another flick is ready to hit the screens. Well, it is
none other
than superstar Shahrukh Khan's Chennai
Express, which is releasing worldwide
tomorrow (August 8).
Expectations are huge from the
audience and traders for Chennai
Express. Traders are predicting the
movie to make earth-shattering
collections considering the long
weekend (4 days).
Many are eagerly looking forward to
see whether the film breaks Shahrukh
Khan's Jab Tak Hain Jaan collections in
the Mysore region. It is because the
Yash Chopra's last movie had done an
earth-shattering collections in the opening weekend. The point we have
to note here is that Karnataka is not a
Hindi-speaking region.

Will 'Chennai Express' set a new record at the box-office?
Chennai Express is the new film of Shah Rukh Khan which is slated tobe
released this eid on 8 August – a trend that has till now, been
followed by Salman Khan. Withseveral films making history at the box
office, Chennai express has a tough
competition. It promises to be a fun filled
entertainer that portrays the clash of
cultures as a young man from Mumbai travels to Rameswaram and falls in love
with a Tamil girl. But, it remains to be
seen whether the film can create box
office history.
The highest opening day collection is Rs.
32.92 crores earned by Salman Khan's Ek
tha tiger. This is also the highest single
day collection by any film. This is
followed by Ra.One which collected Rs. 25 crores, though not on the
opening day. Other significant opening day colection
were Rs. 23 crores by Agneepath and Rs.
21 crores by Bodyguard. So, the film faces
a tough competition.
The highest opening weekend of 2013
belongs to the Ranbir Kapoor Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawani hai
Diwani which collected Rs. 62.11
crores. The record in this respect is held
by Dabangg 2 starring Salman Khan
which earned Rs.63.6 crores in its
opening weekend. Can Chennai
Express break this record?
There is little doubt that the film will
enter the hundred crore club, but the
question is how long will it take to do so?
The record in this respect is held by two
films, both starring Salman Khan which
took 6 days. These films are Dabangg 2 and Ek tha tiger. Shah Rukh's film which
entered the club fastest, taking 10 days
in Ra. One.
The film can turn out to be the hat trick
film for Deepika Padukone as well. This
year, her Race 2 and Yeh jawani hai
diwani has easily entered the hundred
crore club and this may be the lucky third
film.
The highest lifetime collection record is
held by 3 idiots by Amir Khan which is RS.
202 crores. Though Chennai Express is
aiming at Rs. 200 crores, it remains to be
seen whether it can make a new record.
Several of Shah Rukh Khan's films have
done very well overseas. But the record is
held by 3 idiots which earned $25 million
followed by My name is Khan which
earned $23 million. This may be Shah

Box Office Screen Count: Chennai Express To Release In Seven New Overseas Markets
Chennai Express will not only break the dry spell of box office but the much
hyped rom-com will tread into unknown
markets in the global circuits. Unfamiliar
to Bollywood films, this Shah Rukh Khan
and Deepika Padukone starrer is
expected to travel to seven markets including Peru, Germany, Switzerland,
Austria, France, Israel and Peru.
SRK's My Name is Khan and Hrithik
Roshan's Guzaarish were both released
in Peru but that was long after the film
had already released in Indian and other
circuits in the global market. This time
the film will release in the unknown markets on the same day it is scheduled
for a release in India.
"Shah Rukh Khan has a strong fanbase
and the demand for the movie is
enormous overseas. We are releasing the movie in over seven non-traditional
markets and the movie will also witness
a day and date release for the first time in Peru for any Hindi film," confirmed
Amrita Pandey, executive director
(International Distribution) Disney UTV
Studious.
The screen count of film hasn't been
revealed so far but it is definitely going
to cross 4200 on 9th August including
India and overseas market.
The film will also have the biggest U.K
release ever and this Rohit Shetty's
directorial will be screened across 125
theatres and around 170 screens. In total overseas screens of the film
will easily be over 650 which will be biggest ever for a Bollywood
film. Being a SRK
franchise, it is not surprising that the
film is already gearing up for fanfare.

B.A. Pass: 1st Weekend Box Office Collections Report
Acclaimed to be riveting film, B.A Pass is a twisty tale with a strong
climax that
has a disturbing impact. Quite shockingly the film that was solid
content wise on its opening weekend made a cumulative collections of
4.25 crores at the domestic box office.
Aided with fabulous performances from
its lead characters, it is the hint of
unsettling and disturbing calamity
portrays a very keen picture of what lies
underneath the genteel surface. Being a
gritty film paid it off. While more hyped movies failed to fare week at the box
office, this one carried itself out strongly
in its 1st weekend merely on the basis of
its enigmatic plot and sincere execution.
